How CMP delivery and electricity supply fit together
CMP lists Portland in its service territory. CMP delivers your electricity; choosing a different supplier changes the supply arrangement while CMP continues to handle delivery.
For customers who do not choose a competitive provider, the Maine Public Utilities Commission arranges standard-offer supply. Use the Commission’s standard-offer page and select Central Maine Power and the appropriate customer class. A Versant district benchmark is not the right starting point for a Portland CMP account.
Compare the supply rate with your own usage
Keep a recent CMP bill nearby. Note your supplier name, supply price per kilowatt-hour, monthly usage, and any contract end date. Compare a competing offer against the CMP standard offer for the period you expect to use it. A statewide average that includes delivery is a different measure.
As an illustration, a 1¢/kWh supply difference at 600 kWh is $6 for that month before any added supplier fees. It is not a $6 reduction in delivery charges or a promise of savings. Use your own usage and the full contract terms when deciding whether a switch is worthwhile.
